Does your boyfriend or brother spend a lot of money on skin and hair care products? Does your dad spend much time at the hairdresser or beautician?
In your city’s daily paper do most of the political news items feature women? Are most of the stories in the business section written by and about women? Is there a special ‘Men’s Section’ filled with celebrity gossip, fashion and beauty tips?
When you watch a big sporting event on TV, are the athletes usually women? When you watch female sporting teams are there hot guys in tiny outfits cheering for them on the sidelines?
Do girls you know talk openly about getting off while watching porn? Do they boast about their sexual conquests?
When you’re at the food court, do your female friends happily gobble down a large burger and fries combo while your male friends pick at a salad and sip diet coke?
Do the majority of the fathers you know spend most of their time at home washing, cleaning, cooking and taking care of their kids? Do you often hear mothers refer to looking after their own kids as ‘babysitting’? Have you heard women talk about earning brownie points for cleaning their own house and washing their own clothes? Are you sick of men going on about how hard it is to balance work and parenthood?
Are your male friends afraid to walk on their own at night? Do they avoid drinking too much in case they get raped? Do they dress to protect themselves from attack and always carry their keys poking through their knuckles? When they complain about all this do your female friends shrug and tell them that’s just how the world is?
If the answer to all of these questions was yes, wouldn’t that mean something was wrong? Is that still true if the genders are reversed? Does it matter?
” —Opening from Emily Maguire’s ‘Your Skirt’s Too Short: Sex, Power, Choice’ (via gothipslikecinderella)In my procrastination today i found myself on Reddit, and on http://www.reddit.com/r/sex/ reading about a guy who wants to have sex with Pizza dough (ok then). Interestingly, in the comments was a link to the subreddit A Bra That Fits. I just bought a new bra yesterday, and while i was in there trying it on, i noticed a bit of what i thought was flab overflowing under my arms. So, sitting on the floor of the Myer change rooms, i googled it and came across Migrated Breast Tissue. And it has come up again in this subreddit.
You see, that flab i thought was under my arms is actually migrated breast tissue caused by years of wearing the wrong sized bra. Bad bras pretty much force your boobs to other places.
Now, i am considered amongst my friends as a good person to have bra shopping with. Many years of watching Trinny and Sussanah made me learn when a bra doesn’t fit right, but it appears i had been deluding myself into the wrong sized bra.
The sidebar on the reddit shows you a good way to measure your boobs.
DON’T DO IT STANDING UP. Standing up means that you’re losing all that migrated breast tissue. You lean over so you’re parallel to the floor, then measure around the fullest part. Then measure right up under your breasts. That’s your band, and the difference in inches is the cup.
So me, when measured the conventional way comes in at a 14A who had been wearing a 12C/D( US 34C, UK 34DD) is actually, wait for it,
an 8G/10F (borderline size as my underbust is 31inches, so it’s a half size) (US 30H, UK 30FF)
WHERE DOES ALL THAT EXTRA BOOB COME FROM?!?!?! Under my arms. When i do the Scoop and Swoop all of a sudden the bras i thought did fit have massive quad-boob spillage. Apparently, if you do it often enough, you can re-migrate the breast tissue back to you actual breasts, instead of under your arms
A lot of my wrong-bra wearingness, if this way of measuring is to be trusted, is because they put you in the wrong band size. So even though i measure 31 inches around my underbust, the bra size charts and calculators on sites such as Bendon, still put me in a 14 band, despite a 10 being a 32 because it is 32 inches around. I know for a fact that a 14 bra would be huge on me, i now wear a size 10 top (and bought something extra small yesterday) but bra guides still go, nope size 14.
Read about the different way to measure, it blew my mind, and i can see what they mean when i do arrange my breasts properly in a bra. I’ve ordered some bras in the correct size and will see how they fit. It could all be a horrible mistake and i’ll be sending things back, but somehow i doubt it.
(more annoying, if they’re right, i’m now in one of those hard-to-find-super-expensive sizes)
